Sam Idowu Wins CIT With Saint Peter’s

Great Britain Under-20 Sam Idowu has helped cap off Saint Peter’s historic season with the program’s first ever national postseason tournament championship.

The Peacocks defeated Texas A&M Corpus Christi, 62-61, in dramatic fashion, using a free throw 0.9 seconds left to claim the 2017 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) title on Friday night.

Idowu went 2/2 from the field for 5 points in 9 mins in the victory, as all nine Peacocks that played in the game scored at least two points in the win.

The Peacocks closed out the season winning 10 out of their last 11 games and finished the season with a 23-13 overall record, which is tied for the second most in a single season by a Peacock team.

Saint Peter’s becomes the second MAAC team ever to win a national postseason tournament and the first team from New Jersey to win a national postseason tournament title since Princeton in the 1975 NIT.

Idowo was discovered and called up to the Great Britain Under-20 program in 2016, born in New York, he is a British passport holder.
